The lens features Tamron’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor autofocus system, delivering fast, precise, and quiet focusing for still photography and video. Its VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilisation helps reduce blur caused by camera shake when shooting handheld, particularly at longer focal lengths.

Its optical construction includes 24 elements in 18 groups, using specialised XLD, LD, glass-moulded aspherical, and hybrid aspherical elements to help control optical aberrations.
